A. MAURESMO/A. Montolio 6-3, 6-4

Q. How do you feel you played today?

AMELIE MAURESMO: I think it wasn't, you know, like really a great match. But the most important thing for me today was to win it. Conditions were not very good for my game. Court is pretty heavy. It's a little bits cold. You know, hopefully it will be better and better.

Q. You didn't hit very many service winners today, nor aces. Are you serving as well as you want to or do you just attribute it to it being cold and the conditions?

AMELIE MAURESMO: No. I think I can obviously serve better. I think maybe my toss is a little bit too much on the left, and that's what I have to check. But, you know, I hope it's going to come with the matches. No, I don't think it's because of the conditions or whatever. It's just something I have to fix.

Q. What was a problem for you in her game?

AMELIE MAURESMO: I think she doesn't give a lot of rhythm. She sends a ball that you cannot lean upon. Today my legs were a bit heavy, the court was a bit heavy. I made many mistakes, especially with my forehand. That's it. The main thing, as I said, is with difficult conditions and playing not so well, to be able to pull out of it. So I hope it's going to be better and better.

Q. Sometimes do you think of using all your power to hit the ball, trying to be less sophisticated maybe?

AMELIE MAURESMO: What a question (laughter). I think today I tried to force too much my arm, and I didn't use my legs so much. This cost me all those mistakes on easy points. My game is oriented towards the effect I put on the ball. Generally the girls like to have flat balls coming back. I try to mix it up a lot because of that.

Q. This is the first time you are in the third round in the French Open. Compared with the pressure and what happened last year, can you tell us about what you lived during those first days in the French Open?

AMELIE MAURESMO: I arrived in Paris a bit tense. Little by little with the days going on, it was better and better. Of course, when you go onto the court, there's always some tension, a bit of pressure, but I think it's normal. As I said earlier, I feel the pressure less than last year.

Q. What do you think about all the damage you've done on the building, the building that you destroyed?

AMELIE MAURESMO: What am I going to do about it?

Q. Yes.

AMELIE MAURESMO: Leave it.

Q. You've seen the advertisement?

AMELIE MAURESMO: Yes.

Q. Have many people spoken to you about it, mentioned it to you?

AMELIE MAURESMO: No, not really. It was done last year. Since then --.

Q. Still not repaired?

AMELIE MAURESMO: No (laughter). That's France.

Q. Your next match should be much more difficult. Hrdlickova won. Possibly beyond that is Seles. Are you playing up to the ability you want in order to beat players like that?

AMELIE MAURESMO: You know, I think my game has to get better and better after each match. I think maybe today I didn't have to play better to beat her. I played Hrdlickova two weeks ago in Rome, so I know how she's playing. I'm going to try to put the same game tactically that I did two weeks ago.

Q. Do you feel like you have a home court advantage playing here in Paris or is it more difficult because the nation expects you to win?

AMELIE MAURESMO: I think it's a little bit of both. Of course, you're happy to play at home, so you want to give your best, have some pleasure to be on the court, to win some matches. In another hand, you feel, of course, the expectations of the crowd, of the media, and it's difficult in that way. But I think we have to get used to it.

Q. Are you used to it yet?

AMELIE MAURESMO: We'll see (laughter).

Q. Talking about the tension you were talking about. Don't you feel you are one of the favorites of the tournament, especially as a French player? You're a French favorite compared with last year where many people were expecting a lot from you?

AMELIE MAURESMO: It's true that being seeded and being a French player, it adds a lot of pressure. But the pressure comes also from ourselves because we want to do well. Maybe we want to do too much each time.

Q. But maybe it's more pleasant than last year. There were many things off the court, whereas here you are just a French favorite, you are simpler.

AMELIE MAURESMO: Yes. It's a lot cooler, it's a lot simpler.

Q. You played on center court today, Lenglen two days ago. What do you prefer, Lenglen or center court?

AMELIE MAURESMO: Well, I felt better on the other court. This center court is very big. I think it's a bit heavier, the surface anyway, or maybe it's because it rained Tuesday all day, it became heavier because of that. But anyway, I'll have to adapt to any court, one way or the other. I hope I will go through the first week and I'll be able to choose in the second week maybe.

Q. Do you have the feeling that the people around you are approaching the French Open differently than last year?

AMELIE MAURESMO: Myself, I am different. I'm quieter. Last year everybody was nervous. We wanted not to miss the appointments, do as well as possible. This year it's quieter, calmer, there's more confidence there. We were comparing things and make them relatively more or less important.
