Q.
Coming back, how do you feel?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
It's always very nice, very pleasant. A bit of
stress, too. It's always stressful to come back
and play in Paris. But I'm very pleased. I think
it was a good match today.
Q.
Did you expect anything better for today?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
Well, it was a first round. It was not a great
match. But the main point here was to win. It's
a way of getting into the tournament. I had good
moments, and moments that were not as good. But
never mind. The aim was to win, and I won.
Q.
Do you feel that this is a follow-up of Rome,
or is it a renewal today?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
It's always something new when you start a new
tournament. The first and second round, for instance,
are always something new. Then after that you
feel that this is a follow-up of what you did
the previous weeks. I hope that it will all come
back. The fact that I managed to win quickly -
only two sets fairly easily - is a good thing
for me.
Q.
You were saying it's always pleasant and stressful
to be back in Paris. Do you see a difference from
last year?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
Oh, less pressure, less pressure than last year.
Maybe it's better for me. Maybe I have a different
frame of mind because I've had good results on
clay during the previous weeks in Europe. I think
it was important.
Q.
Did you look at the draw, and do you have any
ideas what's coming up?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
I know I will have Seles. I don't see things like
that; I play one match after the other, one match
at a time.
Q.
Do you know your next opponent?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
I think they're still playing, or they will play
soon.
Q.
Are you going to watch?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
No. Alexia will do it for me.
I don't really
know either of them well, but we will discuss
this tomorrow quietly.
Q.
What did you do during the week before Roland
Garros?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
That was a short week because we were back from
Rome on Monday, traveling Monday. I rested for
two days, then started working on my fitness for
two days, then traveled to Paris. Training on
Saturday and Sunday. That's it, we're Monday.
Very classical timetable for the last week.
Q. You
have more French players on your side of the draw.
Do you think, for instance, that playing against
Mary Pierce or any of the other French players,
would that be something that impresses you, or
is it just another player?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
If I have to play Mary Pierce, that would be very
good, very good, if you look at the draw. To be
very frank, I don't think it makes any difference
should I play a French player or any foreign player.
It doesn't make any difference for me. I didn't
think about that. That would be a quarterfinal
if I met with Mary Pierce, so that's a long way
ahead. I'm concentrated and focussed on this round,
second round. Let's go step-by-step. Let's take
it quietly.
Q.
A number of players have said that, given the
new structure of the central court, there is a
lot of wind.
AMELIE MAURESMO:
I don't know because I haven't played at all,
even during training, on the center court.
Q.
But you haven't heard that?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
No, I didn't hear anything about that.
Q.
Well done, but you gave us quite a long wait for
the final win in that last match, several deuces.
How do you feel about your performance today?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
Well, I think it wasn't my best match ever, but
I think the important thing today was just to
have a good win, to stay as short as possible
on the court. That's what I did. It's true, I
had - I don't know - six match points to finish
it off, but it happens.
Q.
Do you feel there's less pressure on you this
year than last year?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
Yeah, I think so. I think last year really everyone
was expecting for me and expecting a very good
result. I didn't have a very good draw last year.
This year it's better for me because I'm seeded.
I'm going to try to take advantage of this situation.
Q.
Does it feel a little easier as well with several
other French seeds?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
Yeah, I think with the other girls seeded, and
also the men, there are a lot also. Maybe pressure
is on all of us a little bit - how do you say
- divided.
Q.
The pressure is spread a bit more evenly.
AMELIE MAURESMO:
I think so, yeah.
Q.
How do you think about the possibility of coming
up against Mary Pierce?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
I think it would be good for me, as I said. I
always play match after match, try not to see
too far. I just know if I play her, it would be
in the quarterfinal. You know, just looking forward
for Wednesday's match.
Q.
Is it a surprise to see that Halard has been defeated
already?
AMELIE MAURESMO:
I saw just after my match, I watch the result.
You know, of course it's a bit of a surprise.
I didn't see the match. I don't know how she played.
