Everything Amélie has to do to arrive, she does.

Interview with Christophe Fournerie, Amélie Mauresmo‘s coach
Thanks to Saskia for translating !

What do you think about Amélie Mauresmo's covered during the Australian Internationals ?

Her success isn't a real surprise. Before tournament, she was feeling well. She had to pass the qualifications of Sydney's tournament, where she played very well before to fell in the first tour vs Barbara Schnett, who was the best player of the moment. In Melbourne, we knew that she could do a good tournament. Physically and psychologically, Amélie was very serene and had all the time great pleasure to win her matches.

How do you work ?

My methods are differents from those of her last coach, but we kept knowledges. I get her to make physical work which is directly connected to tennis to make her talent in her power's service and vice versa. We work six to seven hours a day in three times : physical training, tennis training, and muscular training.

During the tournament, her opponents talked a lot of her breadth accross the shoulders...

That's ridiculous, shoulders never made great players but head and legs. Amélie will play as well as if she had more confined shoulders.

She raises cast-iron ?

She works on small dumb-bells. She's mostly concerned by her high-body's slackening and her footwork. That's a dynamic work and powerful because she has to be agressive to go on front. We also alternate with stretching sessions.

Is she a good "pupil" ?

really love the way she invests herself into work, she has a total application. She completly impressed me. Everything Amélie has to do to arrive, she does. I remember one day when we finished a six hours training's day on the beach. We had already work a lot and she put an incredible energy to do the last difficults exercices that i exepcted from her. It concerned to make starts running in the sand again and again and again to increase the power in the legs. She didn't grimace, we had to get her out of the beach to stop her.

What's your relation with her ?

We work together for six weeks, and i'm delighted. She's a very sensible lady and i love that because so am i. We are accomplice at life and at work. We live a healthy relation. We laugh a lot and we don't take oneself seriously because we have to live, it's not necessary to become gloomy.

You showed, with her girlfriend, a very unite trio...

Everything goes smoothly. Amélie is in love and when we are in love, we have wings.
