QUESTION: Can you talk about the conditions
and what it was like playing out there in the wind?
DECHY: Well, at the beginning it was not
too windy. So I think it start especially in the
second set, but it was for the two players, so we
have to get used to it, and even if we cannot play
our best game, we have to win, I guess.
QUESTION: How did it affect you? How did
you have to try to change things or cope with it?
DECHY: It didn't affect me. I just pay attention
of my serve because it's harder when it's windy,
and then in the game we couldn't hit powerful, but
it was okay. It was not too windy.
QUESTION: Could you tell if it was bothering
her at all?
DECHY: I don't know. Maybe. But it bother
you when you're not moving so well because the ball
is moving -- is changing, so maybe, yeah, maybe
she made some few mistakes because of it, but it's
-- you have to deal with it.
QUESTION: Had you played her before?
DECHY: 20 -- 20 times. I don't know. We are
the same age and we used to play the competition
in France, so I know her since we are like seven
or eight.
QUESTION: Was her game back then the same
game it is today?
DECHY: Yeah. She improved. She improved a
lot, but she always have a powerful game with some
good spin and then going to the net. So she always
had the same game.
QUESTION: How have you done against her in
the past?
DECHY: It's always really tough. One is winning
and then the next game is the other one. I don't
know. It's really tough. Last time I won it was
in juniors, so it was a long time ago, but it's
always that tough.
QUESTION: Do you know how many times you've
played since you've both been on the women's circuit?
DECHY: Not too many times. We played on the
junior tour, but I think it's the first time on
the WTA tour.
QUESTION: This is the first time?
DECHY: I think so, yeah.
QUESTION: Is this your biggest win?
DECHY: It's one of my biggest win, but in
Paris I won against Testud, who was good also, then
Majoli, so I had some good wins this year.
QUESTION: In the first set she came out and
she had 26 errors in the first set. Were you just
trying to keep the ball in play or what was your
strategy when you saw her making so many errors?
DECHY: Well, at the beginning I started the
match I was aggressive. So she couldn't find her
rhythm, her timing and everything. But I play my
game. I practiced with her two days ago, and I knew
that she could make some mistake during one set
and then play a lot better at the other set. So
that's what she did.
QUESTION: What happened second set, 6-0 in
like 20 minutes?
DECHY: I was taking a break. I don't know.
I didn't move so well in the second set, and she
didn't -- the mistakes she made in the first set,
she didn't make any mistake in the second set. I
think the first mistake she made again was in the
second set, and I said, well, thank you. In the
second set she didn't miss anything and it was very
tough to play her.
QUESTION: Do you know Amelie very well or
have you just been rivals throughout the years?
Have you spent time with her? Do you know her pretty
well?
DECHY: Yeah.
QUESTION: How would you describe the reaction
of the French public and some other players who
have known her since the French Open?
DECHY: The French public was really good.
Also I mean it's fantastic what she did at the Australian
Open, then I guess indoors in Paris.
QUESTION: Not just her as a player, but also
the fact that she made the decision to let it be
known her sexual orientation and those kind of things.
Has the French public and the players been very
supportive of that, kind of rallied?
DECHY: Yeah. I think it's her private life.
She does what she has to do with this. She found
a balance with that and she's good like that, and
we don't have to care about her private life. She's
doing what she wants to do, and the French public
has been very approved for her during the tournament
in Paris. It's good.
QUESTION: Are you friends with her? Are you
good friends with her?
DECHY: Yeah. Still. I mean it is no different.
QUESTION: What is your best surface? Do you
like clay?
DECHY: No.
QUESTION: You do not like clay?
DECHY: Well, I try to like, but no. It's
hardcourt my best surface.
QUESTION: You played on it a lot.
DECHY: Yeah.
QUESTION: In the third set it's sort of strange
the way the errors for her went up and down, and
in the third set it was like the first set all over
again. Did you do anything differently in the third
set, take advantage of that or --
DECHY: Well, I tried to be more aggressive
and to move better than the second set. And no,
I just concentrate on myself.
QUESTION: Was the wind very tough to play
in?
DECHY: The wind. Yeah. It was tough, but
it was for both players, so it's not the first time
it's windy in a tournament. So you have to get used
to it everywhere. In Australia it was windy, too.
QUESTION: Did that help you against her do
you think?
DECHY: Maybe. Yeah. I think so.
