Interview with Amélie Mauresmo
Kloten 1998

Interview Amélie Mauresmo (Oct - 12 - 1998)

Q: Last week you walked well, even if with the first set (against Plischke) you knew problems. Does that want to say that you can start the end of the season in the best provisions and that you can still by the end season improve it the classification?
A: Well, I hope, yes. It is for that that I play of the tournaments indoor. It is a surface which is not appropriate to me too badly. I can make good results là-dessus.Last week I passed four turns, I lost against Sanchez. I was disappointed a little after this match there. But good, there (in Zurich against Plischke), even if it is true that I put a little time to put to me in the match, I am anyway glad to have gained and to be able to have an interesting match in the next turn.

Q: Which is your goal until the end of the season?
A: On the level of classification? Ah no, it is especially my work on the level of the play, not really on the level of the classification. There, I have a surface which gives the opportunity to me to be aggressive, to test to bring my play more forwards, which did work quite well in today's match. That will give me confidence, I hope, for the next match.

Q: The next match, perhaps against Kournikova?
A: Why not, yes. Since Roland (Garros) I never played against her again. There, in Roland, I had passed beside the match. I had felt a pressure after Berlin, on the level of medias etc. Everyone awaited me to win. This next turn (possibly against Kournikova), I make a point of not making the same mistake again.

Q: You feel yourself well physically?
A: Well, I feel myself physically well. It makes now a year that I did not have a large trick. That enables me to make one full season.

Q: Do you know already how you will prepare the next season?
A: I will take a little bit of holidays, I do not know yet where. I will play a French tournament in December. And then I will prepare, I haven't a fixed plan, yet. But I will prepare to begin in Australia with Hobart and Melbourne.
